Dottie

Privacy Policy

Last updated: June 2026

Dottie is a personal, open-source fork of Element X Android, a Matrix client. It is an app you install on your own device. The people who build Dottie do not run any servers and do not receive your messages, contacts, or account data.

Where your data goes

When you sign in, you choose a Matrix homeserver. All of your messages, media, profile information, and account data are handled by that homeserver and the people who operate it, under their privacy policy — not Dottie's. Matrix conversations are end-to-end encrypted where supported.

What Dottie itself collects

Third parties

Optional features you turn on may contact third parties you choose — for example a push gateway for notifications, or a map provider for location sharing. Sign-in uses your homeserver's authentication service. Each is governed by its own provider's policy.
